Education Background to this section Return to the Education list It is unfortunate that it is in the domain of education that ECRE-European Committee on Romani Emancipation has uncovered irrefutable evidence that, part of the challenge facing Roma families today, is that they are the only people in Europe still being subjected to Nazi-style onslaught. This attack is coordinated directly, not by skin heads and crazed drunken gangs but by the central governments, ministries of education, finance and rural local authorities in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia. This is part of an "official policy" which has intensified during the last 14 years. It is actively encouraged by neo-Nazi elements within these governments. We present a three part article which outlines ECRE's data. This shows that during the period 1989-2003, the Central European Special school system, set up for remedial education, has been proactively transformed into a cruel system directly modeled on the Nazi special schools of the Third Reich which were characterized by: no parental choice in where their children are sent fraudulent classifications of children by government paid psychologists broad branding of such normal children as being mentally deficient segregation of the majority of Roma children in rural villages vast fund transfers to those who manage the schools a vibrant "Gypsy business" benefiting members of the mainstream The governments of the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia have provided increasing financial incentives for rural local authorities to segregate Roma children and deny them education. This policy has been so "successful" that the population of Roma children subjected to this cruelty has risen 400% in the last 14 years. This "conversion" of the old remedial schools back into a gulag of educational denial has been managed by so-called "democratic governments" which have appeared during the last 14 years in these countries. The most striking feature, besides the overt racism and classification frauds involved, is the sheer scale of funding involved. It is a Euro multi-million "Gypsy business". These are governments of the "New Europe" who eagerly await their accession to the European Union. The toleration of this level of racial and child abuse and total denial of education is a disgrace and this is why the Special Schools and/or streams should be closed.
